Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is the difference between an RDN and other "nutritionists"?The short answer is that all Registered Dietitians (RD or RDN) are nutritionists, but not all nutritionists are Registered Dietitian Nutritionists. Virtually anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, which makes it really tough to differentiate those with extensive nutrition education (i.e., RDN and CNS) from those who took a weekend class or read a book. Other nutritionists (health coaches, holistic nutritionists, nutrition therapy practitioners, etc.) may have little to no formal training in nutrition, and their services are not eligible for insurance reimbursement anywhere in the US.
-
Do I need a referral? If wanting to use insurance, we will need to receive ICD-10 diagnosis codes from your physician for both Cigna and United Healthcare. Learn more on our Rates & Insurance page. Cash pay clients do not need a practitioner referral or diagnosis codes.
-
I’m not in Colorado. Can I still work with you?Yes! Since all visits are conducted through a HIPAA-compliant video call, we can work with clients across the US. However, we can only bill insurance for Colorado residents. While this may be a new way for you to work with a practitioner, we have found most clients grow to love the ease and convenience of having one less appointment to travel to (especially in inclement weather or if they are not feeling well). It's especially helpful for those living in a more remote area, being able to have access to a digestive health dietitian when their area doesn't have one.
-
How do we meet?We use TeleHealth to meet remotely with all clients via a HIPAA-compliant video call (or by phone). When it's time for your session, you will log in to your client portal link provided for you. Don't have a client portal yet; one will be created for you upon scheduling your first appointment. You can join on your computer (recommended) or by phone or tablet. Please be in a quiet/private location and do not drive during your appointment.
-
What is your cancellation policy?48 hours' notice or a $100 fee will be charged to the card on file. Let us know ASAP if you cannot keep your appointment. This gives us a better chance at rescheduling your time slot with another client.
-
What is the process for working with you?The first step is to schedule an initial assessment/case review. You will need to activate your Practice Better account on a device you can fill out and submit your new client packet. If using insurance, please upload pictures of your insurance card(s) and photo ID. Please be sure to submit diagnosis codes from your physician. Upload any clinical information we might need, such as any recent lab work.
-
Do you take my insurance? How much does an appointment cost?To see which insurance plans we accept and for more information, please visit our Rates and Insurance Page.
-
What forms of payment do you accept? Do you offer payment plans?-We accept all major credit cards and HSA/FSA if you have a debit/credit card linked to your account. -We do offer payment plans -We are currently working to become a CareCredit provider
-
What can I expect from an initial appointment? We will review your intake forms, food log, and current labs during an initial visit. Get to know you, your history, and the goals you have for your health journey. A highly customized, individualized plan for you. After a review of your information; A personalized action plan will outline the steps needed to set yourself up for success and guide you toward taking control of your health and reclaiming your life. Together we will review your action plan following your case review. (Action plans are unique to you, including dietary and lifestyle recommendations, suggestions for additional lab testing, and/or suggested targeted supplementation if needed.
